Sunflower seed giveaway

All 4000 packets of giant sunflower have now gone. Thousands of people applied online and if you were one of the lucky few to be successful, you should receive your free packet of seed within the next few days. If, however, you weren’t successful, there’s still time to buy some of the sunflowers on offer. Here’s a quick summary of the four varieties concerned.

Giant Yellow

Tall, yellow sunflower capable of growing to a height of 1.8-2.7m (6-9ft).

Kong

Tall, multi-stemmed variety bearing lots of yellow blooms over a long period. Can grow to a height of 4.2m (14ft).

Mongolian Giant

Extra large seeds, with yellow flowers upto 45cm (18in) across. Plants can reach a height of 4.2m (14ft).

Pike’s Peak

Extra large seeds mean extra tall plants and this variety can grow to 3.6-4.5m (12-15ft). It has golden-yellow flowers measuring 35cm (14in) across.
